PROCESS: HARDWARE

Life Pixel is a company that will convert your digital SLR camera to only capture in infrared. There are several options to choose from such as: hyper color, enhanced infrared, super blue, full spectrum, standard IR and super color IR - but you can only pick one. And, you should use the best camera you have for the sake of quality. I waited so long for this moment, when I had to upgrade my camera, and decided to send my second camera for the conversion. It will never see the colors of light the way it was manufactured.

Taking the photos is of course practically the same with any camera, with the exception that with infrared when you look at the digital photo you just took, it is completely red. There are varying degrees with tone, but you won’t know how it really turns out until after processing. Once the images are downloaded to the computer, you use software designed by Canon called DDP. This allows you pick the white point (as best you can), and the image turns from red to a purple color. Next, the image is processed into Photoshop to run recorded actions. The red and blue channels are swapped, and green channel turned up a little to produce the final digital infrared image. After effects and additional processing can be applied, but at this point you can see if the image is working or not.
